CBI makes first arrests in Adarsh scam

After being reprimanded by the High Court for its lackadaisical approach in probing the multi-crore Adarsh scam, CBI made its first arrests yesterday in the case. Those held include a retired brigadier.

After being reprimanded by the High Court for its lackadaisical approach in probing the multi-crore Adarsh scam, CBI made its first arrests yesterday in the case. Those held include a retired brigadier.



Officials arrested RC Thakur, a retired defence estates officer, Retired Brigadier MM Wanchu and PV Deshmukh, the then deputy secretary in the urban development department.

CBI has registered a case against them under sections 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating and 471 (using as genuine a forged document or electronic record) of IPC. The three are among the 14 people, whose names are mentioned in the FIR report registered by the CBI in January 2011.

The other accused are former CM Ashok Chavan, Kanhaiyalal Gidwani, Ramanand Tiwari, Subhash Lala, R C Sharma, R K Rampal, A R Kumar, Jairaj Pathak, TK Sinha, Pradeep Vyas and TK Kaul.

The three arrested were produced before the Session's Court yesterday. Meanwhile, authorities will take a call on Gidwani's arrest, as he is already in jail in connection with another case.
