Wants narco-analysis for the NCP MP after he refuses to divulge details during interrogation

The CBI is seriously contemplating subjecting Padamsinh Patil, the NCP MP accused of masterminding the murder of Congress's Pawanraje Nimbalkar, to narco-analysis after finding the ageing wrestler a tough nut to crack. Investigators have realised that the 69-year-old wrestler still has a strong physique and an impenetrable psyche.

CBI Joint Director Rishi Raj Singh has refused to comment on the progress of the ongoing investigation into the 2006 murder, but more than 48 hours after Patil's arrest, officials have not been able to get a detailed confession from him, said insiders.

Strong mind

Another reason is Patil's status as a Member of Parliament. CBI officials, unlike their counterparts in Mumbai police, generally avoid using strong arms tactics against senior politicians.

CBI officials have found that Patil is warding off specific questions, including details of how the plot was hatched during the long interrogation sessions.

Need for narco

An official said they were now left with very little choice but to seek permission from the court to subject Patil to narco-analysis. It is necessary if investigations need to make headway during the remand period, sources pointed out.

Already, the CBI is in possession of key suspect Tanaji Patil's narco report, which mentioned Patil and a Rajiv Baba as Nimbalkar's killers. Investigators are beginning to suspect that Rajiv Baba could be an alias of someone in Patil's family.
