All of them had left from their Dadi Colony residence in Mumbra on Thursday at 4 pm in their Scorpio car.
It was when they were about 150 km away from Sarangpur of Rajgarh district that their car collided with a bus coming from the opposite direction.
The family members — Mahfuz Khan (55), his wife Akbari (50), sons Hayderjan (35) and Sabdarjan (30), 3-year-old granddaughter, brother-in-law and his wife — and driver Yusuf Shaikh (30) were in the car when the accident occurred. Everybody except the brother-in-law died on the spot.
“They had left for Allahabad to attend the funeral of Mahfuz’s paternal uncle, who was 105 years old. The Khan family met with an accident at around 4 am on Friday morning, when they were over taking a vehicle and hit a bus coming from the opposite direction,” said Shakeb Anwar, one of the close friends of Mahfuz Khan, who was the general secretary of Thane All India Muslim Council and had a construction business in Mumbra.
