Boy beats recession, makes mega bucks

23-yr-old's story is an inspiration for all of us this tough financial season

Dushyant Bhatia (23) was a research analyst with top financial services company J P Morgan when its mid cap operations went bust in February last year. Luckily, he wasn't fired, but was absorbed into the debt capital market. However, he wasn't happy just pushing pen to paper.

So, in a move that shocked his friends and parents, he left the company in August to start an advertising portal for bloggers, https://www.blogertize.in/, a month later. He is now having the last laugh, as he and his partner in the US, Darshan Gusani, who had started off with just Rs 45,000, have since made around $43,000 (over Rs 20 lakhs).

"Everyone thought I was crazy in the first month of starting my site. I almost believed it. I had just 10 hits a day and that too from pitying friends and colleagues. It didn't help that a day before I quit, I had received a 30 per cent increment on my salary at JP Morgan," said the Kandivli resident.

His perseverance paid off though. Through a combination of social networking, online marketing and mental grit, Bhatia finally got through to online bloggers. "There are so many people who write blogs and are hoping to monetize their efforts but they don't know how to. By buying advertising space on my site, I help direct users of my portal to their blogs.

They have to make a one-time payment for the next three years," said Bhatia, who offers ad space to bloggers at a rate of $15 (Rs 735) to $150 (Rs 7,350).u00a0 Only last week, https://www.blogertize.in/ registered its 1,500th blogger. Bhatia expects to generate over $100,000 (Rs 48.9 lakh) in revenue over the next three months.

Now, his parents aren't shaking their heads in desperation anymore. "I still quarrel with him sometimes but his hard work has really paid off. He surprised all of us," said his father, businessman Vijay Bhatia.
