Years back Dilip Kumar and Vyjayanthimala shot Naya Daur on the banks of the Dahisar River. Today gutter water has reduced it to a stinking water body. BMC staff promise action
Total apathy of the civic authorities coupled with faulty town planning is allowing sewage water to be directly dumped in to the once picturesque Dahisar River, which originates from the spillway of Tulsi Lake inside the Sanjay Gandhi National Park.

Dahisar River got polluted due to the estate boom in Borivili, Dahisar
Local activist and resident Pandurang Rane, who has raised the issue with civic authorities, said that till the 1990s the river was clean. “The condition of the river has taken a hit in the last 20 years, when areas in Borivali and Dahisar saw a real estate boom. We have told BMC authorities about refuse water originating from the new buildings being dumped in the river.”
Vimal Bhoir, another resident of the area said, “As a child I remember seeing the shooting of the film Naya Daur, starring Dilip Kumar and Vyjayanthimala on the banks of Dahisar River.” “The water was so pristine that we would immerse Ganesh Idols in it. Now it is gutter water,” he added.
When contacted, Ranjit Dhakane, deputy muncipal commissioner stated that dumping of sewage water in to the Dahisar River ought to be stopped immediately. “We will be identifying the errant buildings and take appropriate action,” he added.
