Sachin Jayvant Vetoskar on Monday lost the battle for his life to the city’s infamous traffic snarls on Monday.

Sachin Jayvant Vetoskar’s motorcycle skidded and fell on the Eastern Express Highway near Amar Mahal Junction at Tilak Nagar on Monday. A speeding gas tanker crushed his legs, leaving him bleeding profusely
The 38-year-old biker’s legs came under the wheels of a gas tanker on the Eastern Express Highway near Amar Mahal Junction at Tilak Nagar as he skidded and fell on the road around 2.15 pm. A police constable rushed a profusely bleeding Vetoskar to Rajawadi Hospital in an autorickshaw. But the injuries to his leg were so grave that the hospital recommended that he be taken to a bigger healthcare facility for treatment.
Around 3.30 pm, Vetoskar was back on the road towards KEM Hospital. The ambulance, however, was caught in traffic for so long that he could be wheeled into the hospital only by 6.30 pm. Upon his arrival, the doctors’ prognosis wasn’t hopeful — his pulse rate was dangerously low and the chances of survival slim. He succumbed to the injuries late at night.
Police said Vetoskar, a resident of Hindmata who worked as a supervisor with an Andheri-based private firm associated with the oil industry, was on his way to a worksite in Bhiwandi with a colleague, Ankur, when the bike skidded and fell. Ankur fractured his right hand, but didn’t need hospitalisation.
Driver held
Amod Phatak, Vetoskar’s colleague who was present at Rajawadi Hospital, said the authorities there said they were not equipped to handle the injuries.
“They recommended that he be shifted to a bigger hospital. That’s why we took him to KEM Hospital. During admission at KEM Hospital, the doctor said he had lost too much blood and his pulse rate was very low,” he added.
The driver of the gas tanker, Sevalal Yadav (48), was arrested under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code. He will be produced in court today, said Nishandar Sangramsinh, deputy commissioner of police (zone VI).
He said police personnel nearby had rushed him to Rajawadi Hospital in an autorickshaw.
