The judicial system showed its humane and caring side yesterday with the Bandra Family Court organising a first-of-its-kind counselling session for couples with children who were seeking a divorce or were separated.

The initiative was aimed at ensuring that young minds were not adversely affected as a result of decisions they were not responsible for. The workshop was unique in that they were attended not just by the estranged couples but also by their children.

The meet saw several couples interacting with their children and discussing their fears and problems. Most of the issues that were debated were related to the schooling of the children as most of the kids said they felt bad about both their parents not being able to attend the Parents Teachers Association meetings.

Other issues, such as a parent who has custody of a child giving a negative impression about the other parent to the child, were also discussed.

Speaking to sunday mid-day, marriage counsellor, BS Sonavane said, “There were about 40 parents who attended the workshop where the focus was on encouraging parents who are undergoing separation to provide a healthy environment to their children.”
