Files FIR against film distributors for defacing murals with movie posters

The BMC has taken prompt action against the film distributors, who on Monday, stuck their movie posters on the artwork that was part of the city beautification project along Senapati Bapat Marg.

The civic body filed an FIR at the N M Joshi Marg police station yesterday.

S Y Gadkari, assistant commissioner for G (south) ward, said the promoters had not taken permission to stick the posters.

"We have filed a case of defacement of public property under section 328 of the BMC Act and issued a show cause notice. It was disappointing to see the artwork spoilt within a day.

The painters have a sense of ownership with the work and they were obviously angry."

On Monday, artists and citizens took to cyberspace to protest the film posters pasted over their
artwork.






He said in a tweet, "And, I do wanna apologise to all at #wallproject. The posters are inadvertent, and all at Aladin are deeply sorry. they must be removed."

Mumbai tweeters on Monday evening took apart film promoters on cyberspace for covering the artwork on Senapati Bapat Marg with film posters.

The artists and citizens had completed the second phase of the project, that is being held in collaboration with the BMC, on Sunday.

Following the outburst, Aladin star Riteish Deshmukh and director Sujoy Ghosh publicly apologized on Twitter promising to take the film posters down.
