The BMC has lined up a special gift for the physically challenged this Diwali.
If all goes as per the plans, the visually challenged and those with at least 40 per cent physical disability will be able to ride for free in BEST buses by the festival.
The concession is being offered by the BMC on the directions of the central government.
The only flip side to the plan: Only those staying in Mumbai can benefit from the scheme. The plan is not applicable in Mumbai Metropolitan Region. To implement this philanthropic scheme, the BMC will grant Rs 90 lakh to BEST Undertaking.
The BMC has a 3 per cent provision in its budget for visually and physically challenged people.
Hanumant Gophane, spokesperson of BEST Undertaking, however, said a final decision on when the scheme will come into force is yet to be taken.
