An MLA from Dhule wants the controversial Adarsh Housing Society to be temporarily converted into a hostel for MLAs visiting the city. Anil Gote from the BJP wrote to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis last week, asking him to seek permission for it from the Bombay High Court.
The recommendation has been made in light of the proposed razing in the next two months and redevelopment of the four buildings of the Manora MLA hostel at Nariman Point. With no alternative within a 5-km-radius of Mantralaya, Gote felt that Adarsh could serve as a temporary accommodation.
He told mid-day that putting up MLAs in hotels would incur an expense of about R150 crore. "We can, therefore, request the high court to allow us to stay at Adarsh on a temporary basis. The building has been lying vacant for years. The HCâu00c2u0080u00c2u0088can place a condition that the premises be vacated within a month of Manora hostel's redevelopment."
Government officials asserted that no action can be initiated without the HC's directives.
