9,428 seniors get first shot; BMC to add 11 more centres in Mumbai

The corporation had cancelled vaccination on Monday due to the cyclone and allowed senior citizens and differently abled beneficiaries to walk in for their first dose from Tuesday to Thursday.

As many as 9,428 senior citizens took the anti-Coronavirus vaccines at the civic-run centres on Wednesday, after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation opened walk-in registration for them and differently abled people for the first dose. Besides, 11,835 beneficiaries in the age group of 18 to 44 years were vaccinated at private centres.


The corporation had cancelled vaccination on Monday due to the cyclone and allowed senior citizens and differently abled beneficiaries to walk in for their first dose from Tuesday to Thursday. 



On Tuesday, a total of 16,754 people were vaccinated, including 8,225 senior citizens. By the end of Wednesday, nearly 18,000 senior citizens had received the first dose of the anti-Covid-19 vaccine.

A total of 29,607 beneficiaries were vaccinated on Wednesday, including 4,850 in the 45-59 age group. Out of six private centres, H N Reliance hospital administered the maximum doses at 10,306. Of the 29,607 recipients, 3,220 received Covaxin and the rest took Covishield.

The civic body started 17 more ward-level vaccination centres on Wednesday and will add 11 more on Thursday.
