8-year-old child dies of measles in Mumbai

The child was not eligible for immunization as she was suspected of measles and her sample was sent for confirmation. Later on, it was confirmed that she was suffering from measles infection.

One more suspected death of measles has been reported in Mumbai. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation health department, an 8-year-old female child who was a resident of Sakinaka, Mumbai lost her life.


On 3 January, the child had suffered from fever. On January 5, she had cough, and cold on January 10, she developed rashes all over her body and was admitted to BMC hospital. The child died on January 14.

The child was not eligible for immunization as she was suspected of measles and her sample was sent for confirmation. Later on, it was confirmed that she was suffering from measles infection.

Since October 2022 to till now, eight children succumbed to the measles infection. Nine are suspected to have died of measles. There are over 550 confirmed cases of measles reported so far. Currently, eight patients are in ICU.
