Making vulgar remarks about their female colleagues on a WhatsApp group has landed five men in jail.

The accused, identified as Sanjay Pardeshi, Jayesh Pawar, Mansoor Sayyed, Atul Shah and Sandeep Yadav, working at the Colaba-based Bombay Presidency Radio Club, were arrested for passing obscene comments against their colleagues working in the same office.
The incident
According to Rameshwar Supale, senior police inspector from Colaba police station, the incident came to light after one of the men gave his phone to a female colleague to show her a video.
While she was watching the video, a new message arrived on the phone and the woman realised that it mentioned her. Curious, she read the message and found that the five men had created a WhatsApp group where they were sending vulgar messages to each other about her name and photograph.

“After investigating the matter, we arrested the five accused under Section 67 (Punishment for publishing or transmitting obscene material in electronic form) of IT Act, and Sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code,” informed Ravindra Shishve, deputy commissioner of police, Zone 1.
Cops said that one should be careful while sharing content on WhatsApp and ensure that it does not hurt anybody’s sentiments. The accused have been remanded in police custody till Thursday.
