A month after undergoing medical tests at JJ hospital, Beed constable Lalita Salve is still waiting to hear from the doctors and the state police administration if she can go ahead with her sex-change operation.

Salve had sought permission from the state police for the same. Last year, she had got relief from the director general of police (DGP), who asked her to carry out the necessary tests, which were conducted by a team of five doctors on December 4. After completing the entire exercise, Salve rejoined work on December 27 as a member of the Damini squad and is now waiting for the conclusion of the report. It has currently been sent to the DGP's office.

"After all the high-wire drama, I thought a decision would come from the DGP's office, but I haven't heard anything from them yet," Salve told mid-day, adding, "Things have changed drastically since my Mumbai visit, especially after the media attention. I thought I will get justice, but I guess I have to wait some more."

"People of Majalgaon have extended their support to me, but I feel suffocated with each passing day. Thirty days have passed, and yet, there is no reply from either the SP's office or the DGP's office, I don't know what will happen next," said Salve. mid-day tried to get in touch with the superintendent of police (Beed) and the DGP, but they remained unavailable for comment.
