23 Bank of India customers allegedly lose Rs 3 lakh at Mulund ATM

Around 23 account holders of Bank of India (BOI) allegedly lost Rs 3 lakh from their bank accounts after  using its ATM at Hanuman Chowk in Mulund East. Bank officials have launched a technical probe to see if skimmers were used to obtain the card details.


All the complainants said they received notification about withdrawal from their accounts on December 8 morning. Deepika Pednekar from Mulund East said she received a message that Rs 13,000 was deducted from her account. She went to the nearest branch and found that several others faced the same issue. A retired MTNL official, she said, “I last used the ATM on December 4.” Amount ranging between Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 were withdrawn from the victims’ accounts from several ATMs in Sakinaka, Jogeshwari and Andheri. BOI has already started the process of crediting the lost money to the account holders. 



Sumlata Sherigar, branch manager, Mulund branch, BOI, confirmed the incident and said, “We have briefed the technical team and it has launched a probe to find out how the money was lost. We have also initiated the process of crediting lost money to customers’ accounts.” Senior Inspector Sunil Kamble from Navghar police station said, “Bank officials have informed us about it and said they would approach us after their technical team concludes its probe.”
