A 16-year-old youth allegedly committed suicide after a school-teacher 'scolded' him about the way he dressed during the school-day celebration at Latur in Marathwada region of Maharashtra, police said today.

Aman Ajay Samudre, a std 10th student of Basavannawale English School, allegedly set himself on fire on February 16, a senior police official from Latur said.
According to the official, two days earlier, when the school day was celebrated, Samudre and his friends wore saffron clothes and turbans. School teacher Santosh Alandkar allegedly scolded them saying this was not the way they were supposed to dress for school.

Next day, Alandkar again called him and allegedly told him that Samudre should remember that his marks for internal assessment were in his (Alandkar's) hands, the official said. The next day Samudre allegedly set himself on fire in the bathroom of his house and died at a government-run hospital during treatment on February 17, the official added.

On the complaint of the youth's father, police lodged a case against Alandkar under section 306 of IPC (abetment of suicide), said Shilvant Dhavale, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Latur. The accused teacher was absconding, the DSP said.
