Critical: Shahnawaz Khan is battling for life at Rajawadi Hospital
u00a0According to Khan's uncle Ejaz, five months ago, a girl from his college made overtures to Khan. But since he did not want a relationship, he rejected her proposal.
"The girl was interested in him and would express her feelings openly, but he always turned her down. A few days ago, as Khan was on his way back home from college, the girl took away his ID card, so he went over to her, took the card back, and slapped her lightly on the face," Ejaz said.
As it turned out, he had to pay heavily for that.
Woman scorned?
According to Khan's statement to the police, on October 21, he got about 15 calls from one of the girl's friends in the morning, asking him to meet them near the skywalk in Ghatkopar. He had an exam that day, and he declined the invitation.
Around 3 pm the same day, as he was leaving college after finishing the paper, he saw a girl in a burqa point him out to a group of over 10 people. Once they saw him, they charged at him and started pounding him. He was assailed with choppers, iron rods and boulders, he said.
After roughing him up badly, the group fled the spot, while Khan's friends rushed him to Rajawadi hospital, where he is battling for life.u00a0

Foiled sneak attack
Acording to cops, late on Saturday night, a group of people showed up at Rajawadi hospital, where Khan is admitted in ward number 40. They got in and asked a nurse about "an injured college boy". But she saw that they were hiding wooden rods under their clothes, and alerted security guards. Before they could show up, the boys fled the hospital.
