IMD forecasts light to moderate rains in Mumbai with possibility of heavy spells

Climate scientist and head of SID, KS Hosalikar took to twitter to inform that this is the first time since the onset of rains on June 1 that all the districts of the state have received above average and above average rainfall

The India Meteorological Department, in its 24-hours forecast, predicted a possibility of light to moderate rainfall in city and suburbs with possibility of intense spells in isolated patches, on Thursday.


Skymet Weather also predicted light to moderate rainfall over Vidarbha and Marathwada.


According to BMC data, the island city, eastern suburbs, and western suburbs recorded 6.50 mm, 8.96 mm and 5.88 mm rain, respectively, in the last 24 hours.


Mumbai city on Tuesday received moderate spells of rainfall with heavy rain occurring in some parts of the city. The pattern continued on Wednesday due to convection occurring in the lower levels of the clouds and cyclonic circulation in its upper levels.

Lull starts on Thursday

An official stated that there would be a lull for a few days till September 25 as the current low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal would exit. “Another such area will form sometime around September 25 and will cause rainfall activity to increase,” the official said.
