A residential building in Thane was engulfed in a massive fire early on Monday. While all 29 residents were evacuated safely, one suffered injuries after inhaling the toxic fumes.
Fire brigade officials were quick in launching rescue operations and managed to successfully control the flames. The incident is said to have taken place at Gaondevi's Rajhans building.
A report in the Hindustan Times quotes Santosh Kadam, disaster management officer with the Thane Municipal Corporation’s Regional Disaster Management Control department as having stated, "The fire started because of a short circuit. We reached the site immediately after we got a call. There was not much of a fire to douse, but there was a lot of smoke, so we decided to evacuate the residents."
He is also reported to have added, "We evacuated 29 people from the building safely. One person has been admitted to Bhansali hospital for treatment as he had inhaled the smoke and was facing breathing problems. It’s not a serious injury." The fire also affected several cars that were parked close to the building.
