DK Jain, additional chief secretary (finance) has replaced Sahai. CM Devendra Fadnavis took this decision on Friday evening.

Sahai is accused of turning down Joint Secretary Rajendra Ghadge’s request for leaving office early to attend to his depressed son on August 11. Ghadge’s son Avadhoot committed suicide before his father could reach out to him the same day. If this wasn’t enough, Sahai asked for Ghadge’s leave application when he was informed about the death next day.

Agriculture Minister Pandurang Fundkar has already ordered a departmental inquiry and the CM has asked the Chief Secretary to conduct a higher level probe. Sahai will now remain waiting for a posting and face inquiry.

The employee unions have been demanding registration of an FIR against Sahai. Class IV agriculture department employees association has also threatened a sit-in at the office of the commissioner of agriculture, Pune, from September 7.
