"If Maria did not murder Neeraj, then where is he now?" asks a dejected Amarnath Grover, father of the deceased Neeraj.

Amarnath Grover is extremely upset with the verdict

Unhappy with the conviction, Amarnath (62), said that he had lost faith in the judiciary. "I have lost faith in the judiciary. It is a very disappointing decision," said Amarnath.

Neeraj, who was murdered on May 7, 2008, and his body disposed in the jungles on the outskirts of the city, was the family's only breadwinner.

Since his murder the Grovers have had to go through some hard times to make ends meet.

"I wanted to come to the court for the final judgment, but I was helpless because of my financial and health status. After my son's death, I am totally broken. I have lost all support," added Amarnath.

He said that he would appeal against the verdict and demand the death penalty for the convicts. "I am extremely disappointed with the judgment of the Sessions Court.

If Maria was in the house then why was she not booked for conspiracy in the murder? We only want justice, nothing more than that. My son's killers have not got the punishment, which they were supposed to get."

'We are relieved'
Maria Susairaj's brother Richard, who spent most of the last 48 hours anxiously waiting for the Sessions Court's judgement, was a relieved man.

The three years of trial in the Neeraj Grover case has taken a heavy toll on the Susairaj family. When MiD DAY spoke to Richard, he said, "I am relieved with the conviction and will inform my parents about it."

His parents were unable to be present at the courtroom for the decision. "I cannot talk more than this," said Richard in an excited voice.

Meanwhile, Emile Jerome Matthew's father Jerome Joseph, who was visibly distraught after the Sessions Court convicted him under Section 304 (Part 1) for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

When MiD DAY spoke to him, Joseph refused to comment stating that he was in a hurry and cannot speak. "I am extremely sorry and therefore I cannot speak," is all that Joseph said.
