Today (Tuesday), I was selling flowers outside the station along with my sisters Sangeeta and Jamuna. Around 1.15 pm, we had idli chatni. I got thirsty after that and went to Kamat restaurant near the station to fill my water bottle. The water tank that is usually kept outside was missing today. The people inside the hotel also did not give me water. I then approached the man who was making pav bhaji and asked him for water. He shouted at me and asked me to go away.

I asked for water again, and this angered him. He took some bhaji from the cooking ladle in his hand and threw it at my leg. Koi paani maangne pe jalata thodi na hai?

The bhaji was very hot and I started crying loudly. My sisters and other flower sellers came and splashed water on my leg. Meanwhile, the police also arrived. They took me to the hospital where they applied some medicine on the burns.

I had only asked for some water. I don't know why he threw bhaji on my leg. It is still hurting.

Water for the thirsty

Due to the ongoing four-day water cut from Grant Road to Bandra, the Kamat restaurant in Dadar also faced water shortage. As a result, the restaurant which normally keeps a vessel full of water outside for anyone who is thirsty, had not kept it yesterday. Said Ashok Unde, senior inspector of Shivaji Park police station, "We have arrested the accused, Shetu Shankar. According to him, he was busy with his customers, when the girl irritated him by asking for water. He threw the bhaji in a fit of anger."

Shrinivas Pai, the manager of the restaurant, said, "The girl was standing close to the tawa. Shankar was sprinkling water on the bhaji when some of it accidentally flew on the girl. It was not deliberate. The matter has been blown out of proportion."

Shankar has been released on bail.
