Three Mumbai Police officials from Borivali Police Station are facing bribery allegations. The accused individuals were identified as Senipr PI Sudhir Kelkar, PI Arvind Ghag and Sub-inspector Swapnali Mande.

According to the Anti-Corruption Bureau's media statement, a complaint against the accused was filed by a 31-year-old woman. The cops, during the investigation of a case against her husband and in-laws at Borivali Police Station, demanded a bribe of Rs. 5,00,000. Eventually, an amount of Rs. 2,25,000 was accepted as a bribe by one of the officers.

The issue was brought to light after the complainant reported the occurrence to the prosecutor, who then filed a complaint against the accused cops. Following that, the matter was presented to the court, which directed the filing of a criminal case against the accused policemen under Section 156(3) of the Criminal Procedure Code, the statement added.

It further noted that the local police did not undertake any verification of the purported bribe demand or acceptance.

The probe is being directed by Vidya Jadhav, PI of the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Mumbai.
