The officers who have transferred include Parag Manere (DCP EOW), Akbar Pathan (DCP Detection), ACP Shashikant Shinde, ACP Sanjay Patil and police inspector Asha Korke. “They have been sent to a side branch so that the investigation against them does not get influenced,” a senior police officer told mid-day.
“We have formed a special SIT, which comprises independent officers from the Property Cell, Anti Extortion Cell and Economic Offences Wing. A DCP rank officer along with an ACP will head the department,” the officer added. Deputy Commissioner of Police, Parag Manere was not named in the Marine Drive FIR but he was mentioned in another extortion case registered by the Thane police. The case was registered last week against Singh and other officers for allegedly extorting Rs 20 crore from real estate businessman Shyam Sundar Agarwal and forcing him to sign sale deeds over disputed properties. The Marine Drive police have already arrested two accused Sunil Jain and Sanjay Punamia.
