The Malwani resident would routinely punish the 10-year-old with hot iron

A 26-year-old pregnant woman was arrested by the Malwani police for allegedly torturing her nine-year-old niece and burning her with a hot iron as punishment. The police said the girl has several burn injuries on her body.

The victim took help of the locals and was eventually rescued. The woman and her husband were beaten by the area’s residents after the incident came to light. The accused has been identified as Safiya Abdul Hamid Shaikh. Sources said that the girl’s mother had sent her over to help her pregnant aunt.
On Friday, the girl was sent to purchase groceries, and that’s when she asked a lady from the neighbourhood for help. “She started crying. She told all of us about the torture she had endured. We immediately informed the police,” says a resident. A police officer said, “We have arrested the accused Safiya, and sent the girl to the hospital for treatment.”
