Palghar man arrested for defrauding home buyer in Nalasopara

A 28-year-old man has been apprehended for purportedly deceiving a prospective home buyer in the Palghar district.

A 28-year-old man has been apprehended for purportedly deceiving a prospective home buyer in the Palghar district,  a senior Crime Branch official told PTI on Thursday.


According to the report, the accused had promised the victim ownership of a flat in Nalasopara for a sum of Rs 17.50 lakh however failed to deliver possession despite accepting the payment, stated Senior Inspector Pramod Badakh of Crime Branch Unit III (Virar).


"Suraj Kamlesh Kumar Dubey, the accused, was apprehended in Nalasopara on Wednesday and was operating as a member of a criminal group. He has confessed to involvement in three similar cases within the jurisdiction of Arnala Sagari Police Station and Nalasopara," he disclosed.


In a similar incident of fraud, an unidentified person was booked in Thane for forging signatures of the district collector and writing a fake letter to Thane Police Commissioner. Reportedly, the content of the letter were "provocative".  According to the PTI report, the letterhead, signature and the rubber stamp of the collector were falsified and a case was subsequently registered under Indian Penal Code sections, including 465 (forgery) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief). No arrests have been made, the report stated. 

Beed man booked for rape

In another incident, a Navi Mumbai man has been booked for allegedly sexually assaulting and threatening a woman he befriended online. According to a report in PTI, the 25-year-old accused allegedly raped a woman he befriended through a mobile chat application.

Reportedly, the accused, Navnath Kade, who is from Beed district, allegedly gained the 23-year-old woman's confidence through textual conversations and later proposed to meet. He reportedly took the Panvel resident to Nashik and his home in Beed where he raped her. 

The woman, according to the PTI report, claimed that Kade later forcibly married her, beat her up and later uploaded their intimate photos to photo-sharing site Instagram. 

Reportedly, the crimes were committed by the man between June and August this year; the Navi Mumbai police on Wednesday registered a case against Kade under Indian Penal Code Sections including 376 (rape) and 504 (criminal intimidation). The case was later transferred to the Peth police station in Beed which is the location of the crime.
