Police in Navi Mumbai busted a sex racket and arrested two persons meanwhile, a minor hailing from Bangladesh was rescued, a police official said on Sunday. Per a PTI report, the sex racket was busted in the Taloja area of the city.

Reportedly, a raid was conducted on Saturday on a flat in a residential society after a tip-off confirmed by a decoy, Sub Inspector Suresh Kurhade of Taloja police station said.

The cop added, "Two persons identified as Samon Shaikh and Mohinoor Mandal were arrested and a 14-year-old girl, who hails from Bangladesh, was rescued. A case has been registered under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act."

In another incident from Goregaon, the Bangur Nagar cops busted a sex racket last week involving a former Bollywood artiste and her domestic help.

Kanika Goldar, 62, a former Bollywood actress, was arrested together with her cook, Naresh Kumar Dangi, for running a high-profile sex work ring from her home in Goregaon. The arrest occurred during a raid conducted by Bangur Nagar police on Saturday, a mid-day report stated.

According to the report, the authorities received a tip concerning Goldar's illegal activity, prompting them to begin undercover investigations. During talks with a bogus buyer, officials interfered and detained Goldar and Dangi. They also rescued three others, including a make-up artist and two aspiring actresses, who had reportedly been tricked into sex work.

Investigations found that the rescued women, originally from Kolkata, had been involved in the sex labour ring for several years. Goldar, disillusioned with her Bollywood ambitions, allegedly turned to manage the network as an alternate source of revenue.

According to police sources, Goldar ran the scam for six years, possibly including more people than originally thought. She allegedly controlled fund distribution, attracted new clients by word-of-mouth, and restricted WhatsApp groups.

The raid, led by senior officers such as Police Inspector Bhaskar Kadam, API Atul Avhad, and PSI Piyus Tare, resulted in the elimination of the ring. Senior Inspector PB Tavde of the Bangur Nagar police station has registered a case under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, and further investigations are continuing.
