Navi Mumbai police have arrested three individuals, dismantling an inter-state gang involved in laptop thefts and stealing valuables from cars. The accused, who were based in Puducherry and Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, had been working in Maharashtra and were committing crimes against parked cars.

Senithil Durairajan Kumar (48), Murthy Ramasamy Chinnappan (30) from Tiruchirappalli, and Shiva Viswanathan (47), from Puducherry, are the three people who have been detained. According to the police, the three had been committing crimes in different sections of Mumbai, Pune, and Nashik for the previous twenty days while they were based in Maharashtra, as reported by news agency PTI.

Reportedly, the case broke open when the window of a parked automobile in Vashi was damaged last week, and two laptop computers were stolen. A dedicated investigation team tracked down the stolen laptops at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) station in south Mumbai. The police were successful in apprehending the offenders after collaborating with the Government Railway Police.

During interrogation, the police not only recovered the stolen laptops from Vashi but also uncovered that the organisation had committed similar crimes in other states. This arrest highlights law enforcement's joint efforts to combat interstate criminal operations, the PTI report added.

In another incident from Navi Mumbai, a 35-year-old woman from Panvel accused one Ishan Aveya Bahera Sarvajit of sexually assaulting her and extorting money, leading to the registration of a case by the Navi Mumbai police. The complainant alleges that Sarvajit, promising marriage, sexually assaulted her repeatedly between April and December of the previous year at her residence.

The accused reportedly recorded explicit videos of the woman and used them to threaten her with public exposure if she refused a physical relationship. Additionally, Sarvajit borrowed Rs 7.5 lakh and a laptop for a purported business venture but failed to return either, according to the complainant, a PTI report stated.

On Monday, the Panvel Town police station registered a case against Sarvajit under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Section 376 (rape), and the Information Technology (IT) Act. The investigation is underway, as reported by PTI.
