The Navi Mumbai police in Maharashtra have arrested three individuals and claimed to have successfully resolved 14 cases of vehicle thefts.

Following a surge in complaints regarding tempo thefts within the jurisdiction of the Kalamboli police station, the police analysed the CCTV camera footage. Other intelligence led to the apprehension of Anwar Rasulkhan Pathan (aged 39) from Panvel, a report in PTI stated.

Subsequent questioning of Pathan unveiled critical information, ultimately leading to the identification and arrest of Mannan Abdul Shiekh (aged 36) from Jalna district and Firoz Mukkaram Sheikh (aged 49), known as Mulla, hailing from Beed, as reported by a release from the Crime Unit II of the Navi Mumbai police on Friday.

According to the report, with the capture of these three suspects, law enforcement officials claim to have cracked 14 cases of vehicle thefts committed across various regions, including Navi Mumbai, Thane, Ahmednagar, Parbhani, Beed, Aurangabad, and Jalna, the release stated. Moreover, as a result of their efforts, the police have successfully recovered 10 Ape tempos, one motorcycle, and one tempo engine, according to the same release.

Meanwhile, in another incident, six individuals assaulted a cab driver and made off with the vehicle along with his personal belongings and cash.  The incident happened on Wednesday night when the driver accepted a ride booking from Badlapur to Thane. As the ride progressed, the vehicle neared an isolated area near Ulhas River when the passengers allegedly launched an attack on him, stole everything and fled.

The total value of the robbery, according to a PTI report, is Rs 8.11 lakh. The Badlapur police registered a case under Sections 395 (dacoity) and 397 (robbery or dacoity with an attempt to cause death or grievous harm). The police have launched a manhunt to apprehend the accused passengers.

Recently, a grocery shop owner landed in trouble with the Mumbai Police for faking a robbery to postpone a payment. The 32-year-old man from Matunga had pooled funds to purchase the flat he intended to buy and concocted the false robbery case. He approached the police saying bike-borne thugs had taken his bag consisting of Rs 35 lakhs; however, the police could call his bluff with a swift investigation.
