The Dadar Police in Mumbai had a tough time while interrogating a duo who used hand gestures when they were questioned after being caught red handed for theft. However, the investigators succeeded in solving multiple cases of thefts in the city after the officials managed to get them to speak-up about their crimes, the police sources said.

According to the police, on October 24, one of the two suspects identified as Kiran Murgesh Gurappa, 19 was caught initially by the police while he was in the process fleeing after conducting a theft of gold and silver worth around Rs. 5.67 lakh from a house in Neha Galaxy building on Sion road, Prabhadevi. When cops questioned him, he pretended to be deaf and mute and used his hand gestures.
The police said, meanwhile, Kiran's aide identified as Chandru Ganesh Chendu, 25 was caught by the locals in Dadar area while he was attempting to flee with gold ornaments worth over Rs 5.65 lakh and Rs. 7,000 in cash from a house. Chandru had reached a house in same building. The owner told the police that he had placed all the gold ornaments in the house for Laxmi puja on October 24. After the puja he went to sleep and the following morning, Chandru managed to enter his house. Later, he was chased and caught by the locals after the owner raised an alarm before he could escape with the gold.

The cops who noticed the locals questioning Chandru learnt that he too was using hand gestures and was pretending to be deaf and mute. The police officials suspected both to be part of a gang and began to investigate further.
"It was learnt that the duo was originally from Karnataka and had reached Mumbai. The investigators began to question them further and after sustained interrogations the accused finally began to speak. The officials then came to know that they can speak and hear. The police registered two separate cases against the accused in the matter," said an official.
He added, in both the cases police were able to make a recovery of gold, silver and cash worth over Rs. 11.39 lakh. It is suspected that the duo may have been involved in multiple cases in the city."
