The Worli Police have filed a suo moto complaint and arrested stepfather and maternal uncle of a 13-year-old girl for allegedly raping her since over a year and a half.

The incident came to light on Thursday evening when the Worli police officials during patrolling found the minor girl loitering cluelessly in their jurisdiction, the girl was in a state of shock, said police. Upon finding her the police realised that something was not right with her and brought her to the police station, they calmed her down and then asked her about herself. What the girl narrated to the woman police constable of the patrolling team was shocking.

The girl stated that her stepfather and her maternal uncle had been rapping her since November 2020. The police then sent the girl to BYL Nair hospital where she underwent a medical examination meanwhile the police began the procedure of registration of the First Information Report (FIR).

After consulting with the senior police officials it was decided that the FIR be registered on the complaint of a woman police constable who was with the police patrolling team that spotted the girl. Since both the accused are close relatives of the victim, her other relatives could pressurise her so that the duo could be saved. They could also destroy the evidence as a reason the police registered the case, said officials.

Soon after the offence was registered, the Worli police arrested the two they were produced before the court on Friday which remanded them to police custody. They have been booked on the charges pertaining to rape and under the relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence act (POCSO).

Senior inspector Anil Koli of Worli police station confirms the registration of offence.
