Mumbai Police has formed a special team to investigate emails threatening blasts in city, an official said on Saturday, reported the PTI.

Recently, complaint of an email was received by the police from prominent institution in the city.

The emails which threatened that bomb blasts will be carried out at multiple places in the city were termed as a hoax after security checks by the Mumbai Police officials.

The team is trying to trace the sender of the emails from the IP address from where they originated, said an official of the Colaba police station, as per the PTI.

The mails were sent from a single email ID and the sender had not been identified yet, he added, according to the PTI.

A First Information Report (FIR) was registered on Friday against unidentified persons after the management of the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Museum in Colaba received an email which said bombs had been planted at more than eight locations including the museum, Nehru Science Centre in Worli and Byculla zoo in central Mumbai, the news agency reported.

The other institutions named in the email received the same threat.

The Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad searched the museum, located in south Mumbai, but nothing suspicious was found, the official said.

A case under Indian Penal Code sections 505 (1) (b) (circulating rumour with intent to cause, or which is likely to cause, fear or alarm to the public), 506 (2) (criminal intimidation) and other relevant provisions was registered at the Colaba police station, he added.

Earlier, in a similar incident, the Mumbai Police's crime branch had arrested three persons from Vadodara in Gujarat, on Wednesday, in connection with a threat directed at the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) regarding potential bomb blasts at various locations in Mumbai.

During the ongoing investigation, authorities revealed that the accused individuals orchestrated the threat mail with the intention of creating mischief, newswire PTI reported quoting officials of Mumbai Police.

Subsequently, a First Information Report (FIR) was registered at the MRA Marg police station in south Mumbai against an unidentified person. The Mumbai Police's crime branch was then tasked to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

Based on technical inputs, the crime branch successfully apprehended a 27-year-old suspect from Vadodara. During investigations, Mumbai Police learnt that he had created the email account used to send the threat mail to the central bank. Notably, The suspect holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree and is employed in share market trading, the PTI had earlier reported.
