A 32-year-old man, identified as Mohammed Shabir Saha, has been arrested by the Dharavi Police in Mumbai for allegedly kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl, the police said on Thursday.


The suspect, a resident of Govandi is employed in a cloth-making factory, allegedly lured the girl with food and chocolate while she was playing outside.


The incident occurred on Tuesday between 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. The victim's father to immediately approach the Dharavi police and file a First Information Report (FIR).


According to the police, the police officials rescued the girl from the Govandi area within 12 hours of the incident.

Despite challenges such as the absence of CCTV cameras at the spot, the police, under the guidance of DCP Zone-5 Tejasvi Satpute, ACP Govind Gambhire of Kurla division, Senior Inspector Raju Bidkar, and PI Adaspure, swiftly formed a team. After contacting hundreds of local residents and checking camera footage at exit points, the police traced the man carrying the victim towards Sion Railway station.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly revealed that he has been unemployed and struggling with alcohol addiction for the past month.
