Mumbai: Man attacks Kandivli cop with knife for stopping him from urinating on road

The accused has been identified as Ram Gonte, 41. He is a resident of Ekta Nagar and sells potatoes for a living. Gonte was produced before a court that has remanded him in police custody, an official said

A 53-year-old police constable from Kandivli police station sustained injuries on both of his hands after he was allegedly attacked by a 42-year-old man, a vegetable seller, the police said. 


According to the police, the man attacked the police official with a knife while he was patrolling in the Ekta Nagar area on Tuesday night.


Police sources said the cop, Uday Kadam, was patrolling in the area during which he witnessed the accused urinating while standing in the middle of the road. Several people including some women were also passing by when the cop noticed him.


"Kadam shouted at him and asked him to go to the public toilet to urinate, the accused felt offended and started arguing with him," a police official said.

When Kadam threatened to take legal action, he became more aggressive towards him. He also took out a knife and attacked him. In the attack, he sustained injuries on both hands, he added.

Meanwhile, other staff from the police station reached the spot and detained the accused. He was later placed under arrest and has been charged with relevant sections of the IPC, the official said.
