A 19-year-old Mumbai man, travelling on a train, was apprehended for allegedly molesting a fellow female passenger, the police said, reported news agency ANI.

The accused, identified as Deepak Parte, was apprehended by Mumbai Railway Police, the police informed, adding that the alleged incident took place while the female passenger was on the way back home from a picnic in Mumbai with her colleagues on Thursday, reported ANI.

Sharing further details of the incident, the police said the female passenger, a college student, arrived in Mumbai for a picnic with her colleagues, reported ANI.

She was on her way home by Devagiri Express after frolicking with her colleagues when the accused allegedly assaulted her sexually.

As the victim raised alarm, the co-passengers rushed to her rescue and caught hold of the Mumbai man, police said, reported ANI.

By then, however, the train had departed CSMT, the police said, adding that as they reached Thane station, the accused was handed over to the Railway Police, reported ANI.

The case was initially reported to Thane Railway Police but later transferred to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) Railway Police, reported ANI.

The police registered a case under Section 354 of the IPC and arrested the accused, reported ANI.

Further probe is ongoing by the Government Railway Police (GRP) police. More details are awaited.

In another incident, police have arrested four persons for allegedly running a prostitution racket from a Navi Mumbai lodge and rescued three women from there, an official said on Saturday, reported PTI.

The Anti Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC) of Navi Mumbai raided the premises of Raj Inn Lodging and Boarding at Shiravane in the Nerul area on Thursday after sending a decoy customer, reported PTI.

They arrested three agents and the manager of the lodge and rescued three women who had been pushed into the illicit trade. The women have been moved to a shelter, he said.

Senior inspector Prithviraj Ghorpade of the AHTC said the agents interacted with potential clients through a weblink and WhatsApp and shared photos of women for selection. Clients were then instructed to book accommodations at the lodge, where the women would be made available to them, reported PTI.

The Turbhe police have registered a case under the Indian Penal Code for human trafficking and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act and are looking for the owner of the lodge, he added, reported PTI.
