A retired policeman was arrested after he allegedly fired on his sons on Monday evening, killing one. Rabale cops suspect the attack was the fallout of some financial disputes in the family.

Airoli resident and former Mumbai police ASI Bhagwan Patil had called his son Vijay Patil, who li ves in Vasai, to his flat. The police said the ex-cop suddenly pulled out a gun and fired 3 shots. While Vijay was hit by 2 bullets, the third injured his brother Sujay who tried to intervene. “Vijay was hit in the stomach and shoulder. Sujay sustained minor injury as a bullet brushed past his waist. Vijay was rushed to Indravati Hospital where died during treatment,” said an officer from Rabale police station. “Patil also assaulted his wife,” he said.

Patil had earlier pointed his gun at a person leading to the seizure of the weapon. The police said he had got back the gun only recently. It believed that the father and son had an argument over the bill of a serviced vehicle.

“Vijay succumbed to his injuries and Sujay has been discharged from hospital. The accused and the weapon are in the custody of police,” said ACP (Vashi Division) Vinayak Vats. Sujay is in shock and is not in a position to give statement, he added.
