Mumbai: Eunuchs, friend held for assaulting cops

In the aftermath of an accident, the occupants of one of the vehicles involved, began assaulting the police officers who had arrived to break up the fight at Bangur Nagar, on Sunday.


According to the Bangur Nagar police, of the three arrested accused, two are allegedly eunuchs identified as Kiran Kasbe alias Chutki, 25, and Mala Chinras, 25. They were sitting in the rickshaw being driven by the third accused, Prakash Singh, 26. The police said the incident took place at 1.45 pm on Sunday at the Goregaon Link Road, when Singh who was driving rashly, rammed the rickshaw into a motorcycle, and injured its rider, Shehbaaz Ayub Shaikh. After the accident, Singh and the other two accused began assaulting Shaikh when he tried to explain that the accident was not his fault.



A traffic constable on duty, Anil Jadhav, from Malad division traffic intervened. Passers by also alerted a police patrol van. The accused then removed some of their clothes and smashed the glass windows of a traffic department van parked nearby and assaulted the officers. The passers by who stepped forward to help were also abused by the trio.

After the assault, when more Bangur Nagar officials arrived as backup, they arrested Kasbe from the spot while the other two managed to flee. The police arrested Singh and Chinras from their houses later. Shaikh has been made a witness in the case. “We have arrested the three accused for assaulting government officials, and criminal intimidation under sections of the IPC,” said Senior Inspector Shobha Pise from Bangur Nagar police station.
