Civil engineer who turned to selling ganja after allegedly losing his job in the lockdown, was arrested at Malad East late on Monday night. The police found ganja worth over R9 lakh in his family’s godown.

The accused was identified as Sachin Shahaji Salunkhe, 28, a resident of Shivshakti Chawl at Shri Ram Nagar at Malad East. Salunkhe told the police that he had lost his job in the lockdown. He was tracked when a few days back police arrested another person and seized 2 kg ganja from him.
According to the police, Sachin’s father Shahaji has vegetable shops in Kurar village and after losing his job, he began helping him. The police said the family has a godown in the locality to store onions and potatoes which Sachin used to store ganja. They are probing how he procured it.
The Kurar police registered the case under relevant sections of IPC and the NDPS Act and arrested the accused.
