Mumbai customs seizes 7 kgs gold costing Rs 3.90 crore in two days

On 25-26 February 2024, Airport Commissionerate, Mumbai Customs has seized over 7.28 kgs gold, valued at Rs 3.90 crore on February 25 and 26. The seizers are from 13 different cases


"On the basis of specific intel, one unclaimed case of 24 KT gold weighing 583 grams was detected during rummaging of Indigo's Male to Mumbai. The seized gold was concealed behind mirror panel of the lavatory located at the front end of the flight", the Mumbai customs official said.


The Mumbai customs shared details of the cases including- two Indian Nationals, travelling from Dubai to Mumbai, intercepted and 24 KT Gold dust, collectively weighing 1,350 grams was found concealed in shampoo and lotion bottles, and bread spread kept in check-in bag carried by the passenger. While, another Indian national, travelling from Dubai to Mumbai flight was intercepted and 24 KT Gold Jewellery was found concealed in the socks worn by the passenger. 


Meanwhile, from February 23 to 25, Mumbai Customs seized gold valued at Rs 4.06 crore and a high end phone in nine separate cases within a span of three days, Airport Commissionerate said in a statement. According to the Airport Commissionerate the gold was concealed in clothes worn, on the body of the passengers and in their handbags.

Earlier, between February 18 to 24, the Mumbai Customs Zone-III had seized over 7.64 kg Gold valued at 4.09 crore, in seven different cases. Gold was smuggled using the retail staff of a mobile company and concealed in hot plate, a bicycle, an aircraft seat, corner piping of bag, and check-in bag.
