A 27-year-old woman was arrested by Mankhurd police for allegedly kidnapping a five-year-old boy from her housing society to sell him.

The woman has been identified as Jyoti Bansode.

On February 16, a 37-year-old man from Hiranandani Akruti building rushed to Mankhurd police station claiming his five-year-old son was missing for a couple of hours. Cops immediately registered a case of kidnapping and started the investigation. They scanned the CCTV footage near complainant’s house and found the accused, Bansode, taking a 10-year-old girl and this boy with her. DCP (Zone 6) Krishnakant Upadhyay directed senior inspector Mahadev Koli to form a dedicated team.

"We checked the CCTV footage to find a woman taking both the kids near Govandi railway station. On inquiry we came to know, she lived in the same building. We started investigation and traced the woman’s whereabouts to Kalyan area," said inspector Adinath Gawade. "By the time we sent our teams to Kalyan we received reliable information that the woman was seen in Govandi," he added.

Police caught hold of the accused. During investigation Bansode revealed she had abandoned the boy at Katkar Pada, Boisar, as she got scared thinking cops would definitely catch her. Police contacted their counterparts in Boisar and shared the details of the boy.

"To our relief, as soon as we contacted Boisar police and informed them about missing child, they told us they have a boy in their custody who was noticed by residents crying at road," said senior Inspector Mahadev Koli. "We brought the chile to Mankhurd and reunited him with his family" he added.

Mankhurd cops arrested Bansode under IPC sections 363 (kidnapping) and 365 (abducting with intent secretly and wrongfully to confine person).
