Two people were arrested by the Mumbai Crime branch on Monday for robbing a 34-year-old photographer of Rs 15,000 with a toy gun.

The accused have been identified as Rohan Choudhary and Samran Bhogte, both 21 years old. Cops have recovered a toy gun, a bike used in the crime, one iPhone 3 and Rs 5,000 cash from the duo. They suspect that the accused have been involved in various such offences. They looted citizens of small amounts and the matter was never reported, said police.

According to Mumbai Crime Branch, the incident happened on Sunday evening outside NSCI club in Worli. The photographer, associated with a private production house, went there to cover a party. As he stepped out of the club, two unknown people came on a bike and put the ‘gun’ on his head.

The seized 'toy gun' and other material.

“The accused hit the victim with the butt of the ‘pistol’, took Rs 15,000 cash and fled from the location,” said a senior officer of Mumbai Crime Branch.

Following the incident, the photographer went to Tardeo police station to get the FIR registered.

“The accused were arrested within 24 hours,” said Neelotpal, DCP (detection)

The Unit 3 of Mumbai Crime Branch, which arrested the accused, found that they used a toy gun to threaten the photographer. “It appears that the accused have been using this modus operandi to threaten citizens. As they rob small amounts, such incidents were never reported, but this time the victim approached police and they were apprehended,” said a crime branch officer

Police are checking their records to ascertain if they have attempted such crimes before as well. “As narrated by the victim and on basis of CCTV footages it appears that the accused are very experienced in threatening people with a toy gun,” added the officer.

However, the accused have not yet confessed about indulging in any such activities before this incident. One of the accused was found having a criminal background.
