Mumbai Crime: MP man trying to broker gold deal kidnapped, assaulted; 3 held

The broker and buyer were robbed near Powai lake on Monday night

A Madhya Pradesh-based middleman trying to broker a deal for gold between two groups in Mumbai was kidnapped and thrashed by the buyer after the seller robbed them and fled with the cash on Monday, said the police. While the Malad police rescued the broker after being alerted by his wife and arrested three people, two FIRs have been registered in connection with the case.

Police sources said complainant Saurabh Singh was scrolling through a Facebook page on bullion when he came across an advertisement for selling gold. Further down the page, he found another ad looking for buyers of the precious metal. The seller, Indrajeet, and the buyer, Babulal Gaud, asked him to visit Mumbai. The deal was finalised at R4 lakh and they went to Powai to conclude it.

Near Powai lake, some people attacked Singh and Gaud and snatched the amount. Indrajeet also fled with them. Gaud and two of his men took Singh and his partner to Bhayander accusing him of plotting the robbery. The police rescued the duo after Singh’s wife called them.

“We tracked the broker’s mobile tower location found that he had been taken to a building at Ghodev Naka in Bhayander. We rescued him and his partners and arrested three men,” said an officer.
