A mother-daughter duo were abused and assaulted by two recovery agents who barged inside their house on February 22.

The woman, identified as Hemlata Kundan Singh (42) was in her Goregaon East residence along with her teenage daughter, Jiya (16) and six-year-old son when she heard the doorbell at 3.30 pm.

On opening the door, she saw a couple standing in her doorway claiming to be recovery agents. They asked for her husband Kundan Singh and said that he hasn't been paying his monthly instalments.

When Singh asked them to show her their identity cards to be assured that they were bank employees, the couple said that they did not have identity cards and that Kotak Mahindra Bank had hired them as recovery agents.

When Singh refused to let them inside the house or give them her husband's phone number, the agents began abusing her and her husband Singh's daughter Jiya then intervened and asked them to speak softly which they refused to do. When Jiya began closing the door, the man pushed her aside and barged inside holding on to her neck. Singh said that as soon as she saw they were in danger, she started making a video to record the incident.

The couple (recovery agents), who were shouting and assaulting the women, then fled from the spot after threatening the mother-daughter. Singh then approached the Dindoshi police on February 23 and registered a complaint against the recovery agents. The police have registered a case of assault, criminal intimidation against the recovery agents and are tracing them, said senior inspector Kharat from Dindoshi police station.
