Mumbai Crime: Fake currency racket busted, 4 held with Rs 35.54 lakh in counterfeit notes

The Mumbai Crime Branch arrested a man and 3 members of his gang for allegedly using fake currency in Mumbai and nearby markets. The police seized fake notes worth Rs 34.54 lakh from their possession.


The Crime Branch DCP Akbar Pathan said that on January 26, Crime Branch officer Manish Sridhankar received information that two people were going to bring a consignment of fake notes to Vikhroli area.



Following the tip-off, a trap was laid and two people - Mahendra Khandaskar and Abdul Kalu Khan – were detained and fake notes worth Rs 2.80 lakh were seized from them.


During interrogation, it was found out that Khandaskar, a graduate, used to print fake currency notes in his house, where raids were conducted and fake currency worth Rs 32 lakh was seized.

Two more members of the gang - Farooq Chaudhary and Amin Sheikh – were arrested from Wada area of ​​Palghar and fake notes worth Rs 20,000 were recovered from them.

According to the Crime Branch, Khandaskar, a driver by profession, initially started printing Rs 100 and Rs 200 notes at home and used them to travel in autorickshaw and purchase household items. Later, he started printing Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 currency notes as well.

DCP Akbhar Pathan said, “These people started printing fake notes two months ago. The crime branch is investigating how many notes have been printed and sold by these people so far.”
