Mumbai Crime: Commuter throws stone at constable from train, he suffers chest injury

A railway police constable suffered an internal injury in his chest after a commuter hurled a stone at him from a moving train at the Dockyard Road station on Friday.

The stone was thrown from the fourth compartment of the train on platform two and hit Sunil Chavan, 34, who was on patrol duty. Wadala railway police registered a case of attempt to murder, stated a report in The Times of India.

“Chavan is getting treated at Wockhardt Hospital. We are scanning the CCTV footage of all stations to identify the accused,” said Hamraj Kumbhar, senior inspector, Wadala railway police.

Investigators suspect the person threw the stone to kill him.

“The attack seems intentional. I was on platform 1 when the train headed towards CSTM stopped on platform 2. The commuter hurled the stone as the train gained momentum,” said the constable.

Commuters rushed to Chavan’s aid and took him to the hospital before alerting Wadala railway police. A case was filed under relevant IPC sections against the unidentified person. A team was formed to track the accused.
