In a joint operation between the Mumbai Crime Branch and Punjab Police, two notorious gangsters, identified as Panchmamoor Singh (31) and Himanshu Mata (31), were apprehended from the Kamran Residency Hotel, situated near Kalpana Theater, LBS Road, Mumbai. The Mumbai Crime Branch Unit-5 played a crucial role in the successful arrest.


The Commissioner of Police, Jalandhar, sought assistance from the Mumbai Crime Branch to capture the fugitives, who were wanted in connection with an extensive list of criminal activities in Punjab, including kidnapping, violations of the Arms Act, and attempted murder. With a total of 11 cases registered against them in Punjab, the duo was implicated in a high-profile case involving kidnapping and attempted murder.

Lakhmi Gautam, Joint Commissioner of Crime, commended the exceptional skills and dedication exhibited by the Unit-5 team in capturing the suspects. The apprehended gangsters will now be handed over to the Jalandhar police, following proper legal procedures.

In the meanwhile, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials arrested 4 people and recovered 7 kg of cocaine drugs from them in a series of cases in Mumbai, officials said. The recovered drugs are worth Rs 70 crore in the international market, they said.

According to an official release, in four different cases a total of approx. 7kg cocaine valued at approx. Rs 70 crore in the illicit market has been seized by the DRI officials and 4 persons including a woman have been arrested.

In the said cases out of whom 2 males are Indian nationals and the rest 2 are foreign nationals, read the official statement from DRI.

In one of the cases, two individuals were trying to bring drugs into the country by concealing the same in the false cavities of their trolley bags. In the other 2 cases the carriers had swallowed the drug capsules and, had to be admitted to the JJ Hospital to extract the drug-laden capsules, the official statement said.

In another case, the recovery of a narcotic substance was made from the residence of an Indian person at Virar after the drug was smuggled from Nairobi through Delhi airport. DRI officials also recovered a gun with live bullets without any document proving legal possession, subsequently the recovered weapon has been handed over to the local police for further investigation.

These back-to-back seizures signify the unwavering dedication and professionalism of DRI as an enforcement agency to detect and bust the novel modus operandi of drug syndicates to safeguard society from the scourge of drugs, the official statement added.
