A 26-year-old was arrested for allegedly stabbing his ex-girlfriend in the abdomen on a busy street of Saki Naka, on Saturday evening.

As per Times of India, The incident happened only 100 meters from her residence. She staggered home after which her father and an auto-rickshaw driver rushed to Rajawadi hospital. She was later shifted Sion hospital and had a surgery on Sunday.

The accused, Arjun Singh surrendered in Saki Naka police station on Sunday.

“They were in a relationship about four years ago and she even moved in with him,” said a police officer. “They lived together for more than a year. But as Singh was addicted to liquor and drugs and could not keep a permanent job, she walked out on him and moved back in with her parents,” he added.

Singh never stopped pursuing her as he wanted to get back together with her.

The accused waited near a bakery in Saki Naka. He knew her schedule, said a police officer. Around 6:30 pm when she was walking past the said area, the accused grabbed her hand and forced her to come with him. When she refused, he stabbed her.

“Singh told her that if she couldn’t be with him, he wouldn’t let her have a relationship with anyone else,” Balwant Deshmukh, senior inspector of Saki Naka police station, said.

He has booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
