The Mumbai Crime Branch, under joint commissioner Lakhmi Gautam, has solved the 13-month-old case of an MBBS student who disappeared from Bandstand on November 29, 2021. The crime branch has arrested two persons for allegedly kidnapping the student.

While a lifeguard identified as Mittu Sukhdev Singh who was last seen with her, clicking selfies, was held on January 13, another accused identified as Abdul Jabbar was arrested today. "Both the accused have been arrested on very strong circumstantial grounds, and further probes are underway," Gautam told mid-day.

However, the girl is not yet traced, and the cops have yet to invoke sections of the murder in the case.

According to the crime branch, on November 29, 2021, at 9:58 a.m., the student boarded a local train and got off at Andheri railway station to appear for her exams; after that, she took another train and got down at Bandra and reached Bandstand by taking an autorickshaw from the station.

The crime branch has thoroughly examined her mobile phone network and found that she was roaming in that area, and in one of the CCTV cameras at a luxury hotel, she was seen heading towards the seashore at 12:30 am.

According to the crime branch, all circumstantial evidence goes against accused Singh, as he was seen taking selfies with her, and pictures were also available. "After that, the girl was not seen anywhere." An officer said.

Second accused identified as Abdul Jabbar used to work with Singh at a Chinese stall located near Bandstand. The cops have found multiple calls between him and Singh on the day the MBBS student went missing.

Singh was the prime suspect since the case was registered at Bandra police station on December 10, 2021. He has been questioned multiple times, but the police are clueless, and 13 months after the crime branch arrested him, they are probing the matter further.
