Following a complaint filed by a 36-year-old lyricist against singer, music composer and lyricist Rahul Jain last week, the Oshiwara police booked him on Tuesday for allegedly raping her on the pretext of marriage. According to the police, the survivor got pregnant twice and both the times Jain forced her to abort the pregnancy. When she became pregnant the third time, she refused to go for an abortion and gave birth to a baby boy in March this year. However, Jain has refused to accept the child and forced the survivor to leave his house. A police source said, “The survivor has written songs for a number of TV serials and films. She came to Mumbai with her husband and children in 2018 and started working here. She had met Jain for the first time in 2016 at the office of two popular music composers.”

The source further said that Jain was aware that the survivor had a strained relationship with her husband, and taking advantage of that, he started to get close to her. They started meeting for work and Jain established a physical relation with her on the pretext of marriage. Following the survivor’s divorce in 2019, Jain took a rented apartment in Lokhandwala and both of them started living together. The survivor has alleged that after the birth of their son, Jain refused to marry her and even forced her to leave the house. She further said that he even refused to give her '25 lakh, which he owes her. Thereafter, she took help from Advocate Chandrakant Ambani and registered a complaint with the Oshiwara police.

Speaking to mid-day, advocate Ambani said, “This is clear misuse of power. People like Jain in Bollywood take advantage of other people and exploit them mentally and physically. Such people should not be spared, and strict action should be taken so that no one dares to do this again. He is even refusing to give the money that he owes my client.” An officer from Oshiwara police station said, “We have registered a case under sections 376 2(N), 420, 406, 313 and 34 of IPC. No arrests have been made. The investigation is underway.” When mid-day contacted Jain over phone and asked for his comment, he said he would call back later.

The accused
