Four individuals from Haryana and Rajasthan have been apprehended by Mumbai police in separate cases related to extortion and online fraud, according to an official statement on Tuesday. These arrests were the result of investigations by the cyber unit of the Lokmanya Tilak Marg police station, uncovering five cases.

Wakim Shahun Khan and Ejaz Ahmed Faiz Mohammed were taken into custody in Mewat, Haryana, on charges of extorting Rs 5.15 lakh from an individual by threatening to share explicit videos on social media, stated a PTI report.

According to the report, Narendrasingh Gurjar was arrested in the Deeg district of Rajasthan for allegedly deceiving a woman, persuading her to part with Rs 3.65 lakh by promising to purchase second-hand clothes and a ring she had listed on an e-commerce platform.

Mohammed Salim Khan, a resident of Mewat, was apprehended for purportedly conning a woman out of Rs 8.35 lakh by guaranteeing substantial investment returns, the report further stated.

Additionally, two individuals were interrogated in Delhi in relation to separate cases, with ongoing investigations.

Navi Mumbai youth cheated

Recently, a 29-year-old man from Navi Mumbai was reportedly defrauded of Rs 20.22 lakhs after being enticed by scammers offering an online job with promising returns. The Navi Mumbai cyber police have filed an FIR against four individuals in connection with this case.

According to the complaint, the suspects contacted the victim from Ghansoli in Navi Mumbai between October 5 and 10, using a Telegram ID and WhatsApp. They presented him with a pre-paid online task that offered attractive returns and requested him to make payments to certain accounts, an official told PTI.

The victim completed the task and made payments totalling Rs 20.22 lakhs. Upon finishing the job, when he requested a refund of the money paid and remuneration for the work he performed, the suspects provided evasive responses, said the police.

Based on the victim's complaint, the cyber police filed a case on Saturday against the four individuals under the Indian Penal Code Sections 420 (cheating) and 34 (common intention), in addition to the relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act.
